This past week we were out in San Diego to visit my parents and also for Comic Con! There are some favorite places that we always have to visit and we also had some new discoveries. Next week I will be sharing the pictures and tales from our Comic Con Adventure. It will be worth the wait.
Northgate Market is a required stop! Northgate is a Latin American market/grocery store. It is spacious and carries a lot of variety but we are focused when we visit for a few select items . . . .
First on the list at Northgate is pan dulce, Mexican sweet breads that go great with my morning cup of tea.
Produce. There is a wonderful selection of chilies, tomatillos and other Mexican cuisine favorites.
Last but not least are the freshly made corn tortillas. The bags are usually still warm when you pick them up because they make fresh batches throughout the day. These corn tortillas melt in your mouth. They make great tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, … you get the idea!
My parents took the whole crew out to dinner to celebrate! Celebrate what? My brother’s birthday and Joe and my Anniversary! My brother suggested The Patio on Lamont Street in Pacific Beach. It is a cozy, patio style restaurant that serves fresh and season dishes.
We started with Artichoke & Spinach Dip and the Grilled Cap Steak & Chilled Carrot Salad.
For dinner I devoured the fish special, Pacific White Seabass with wilted chard, and fennel puree. My Pomegranate Paradise Martini was the perfect balance between sweet and tangy.
Joe! He can be so silly.
The Twisted Elvis was our dessert selection. As you can see Joe and my brother could not wait, they were digging in as I was taking the picture. It layers Banana Bread, a schmear of peanut butter, caramelized bananas, vanilla ice cream and foster’s sauce. We enjoyed every last bite!
During our Comic Con Adventures we stopped at Tin Fish for dinner. It is in the Gaslamp Quarter of Downtown San Diego and right across the street from the Convention Center. What do you get at Tin Fish? Fish, duh! And when you are in San Diego you get Fish Tacos! They have grilled fish taco options but the original fish taco is fried! So when in San Diego, it is Fried Fish Tacos for this girl!
During our visit we also enjoyed lots of my Mother’s hmmm hmmm good cooking! On the menu – Chorizo con Huevos (Eggs and Mexican Sausage… recipe coming soon), Chilaquiles, Dad’s Grilled Ribs and Artichokes.
We had a FANTASTIC trip! A triple threat …. Food, Family and Fun! Thanks San Diego for being a great host and the beautiful weather, like always!
Make it a great week friends!
